Conservatism signal the arrival of a more liberal society.

2026 Day 147. #PersonalDays.

All of us struggle with freedom. Some want a sense of personal freedom, where their actions are only dictated by themselves and not influenced by parents or friends. Others want freedom from the shackles of their community or religion, while some are looking to freed from oppressive regimes.

Some are bold enough to stand up for themselves and when they do break out of this they fall into routine of continuously breaking more restrictions. Their captors or limiters might give in for a while, but they do feel unhappy about this on the inside. As long as the freedoms that they are giving out do not disrupt the order of things as they like it, permissions can be granted, however unwillingly.

Once the superiors feel that the freedom subverts their powers or is not aligned with their ideals a rift starts to form. The conservatives try to be more oppressive forcing while the liberals push to even more extremes.

Humans are not immortal and cannot live their entire lives at their peak. As kids they are extremely malleable, they will learn from their parents and others around them and begin to form their own persona. As we grow older we tend to have our own ideas but we are still open to new thoughts. In the final years of our life we have lost our spark, we are no longer curious, and do not wish to change our ideals.

We adopted some ideals as kids. For some of us these were extremely progressive ideas and we thought of ourselves are extremely liberal. Over the course of our life, there are new ideas that are more liberal and our ideas get classified as conservative.

Suddenly, at the cusp of our twilight years we find ourselves clinging on to a liberal identity but with ideals that are conservative in the current times. Because we never evolved or kept up with the times we feel our ideas and freedoms are correct and anything more is too much.

We try to limit those we can control and it is at this point that we feel that conservatism is on the rise, but it is just the liberalism of the past trying to re-establish itself in a newer time. The closer we are to our final days, the harder we cling on to those seemingly conservative ideas. The stronger the wave, the closer it is to dying out, and giving way to the next idea.

These final waves are what define the country and its people. Because politicians are older (at least the ones in power), and we must respect our elders, we try to be not too harsh, and realising that these could be the final years we can be a little too accommodating. This can lead to frustration and problems that affect the next generations.

It is important that we must seem passive and understanding while acting brave on the outside. We need to present the idea to the conservatives that the world is exactly how they want it to be to calm their voices down. On the other hand we must instil in ourselves and the next generation new ideals so that they may be more liberal than us at the least.

Conservative voices will inevitably rise. It is up to the next generation to keep them at bay while giving more power to the more liberal ideals. The clash of ideology can be prevent with non-violent solutions.

These however would require an understanding of human psychology for individuals and society at large. We must learn to communicate effectively in our homes and in public. We must also be able to create a bubble of distinction to separate out the ideas.

To minimise conflict we must present the conservative parts of the world to the conservatisms and the liberal parts to the liberals. Both cannot exist peacefully together, but the ideas can coexist even in small households. To minimise the conservatism of the old we must downplay the liberalism.

This would help minimise the attacks on the new generations and give the older ones more confidence in giving up their powers and positions. Once we have faced out the older conservatives, more liberal ideas can take a stand and drown out the voices of the conservatives in current or next generations.

When you grow up in a peaceful transition from one power to another, people will see change as a necessary step towards betterment of themselves and the country at large. Minimising power struggles by letting the two groups exist in their own bubbles can help make these transitions easier.

The new generation will grow up in a liberal bubble inside a conservative world. As time grows the bubble will enlarge and the world dynamics will start shifting. This will happen sooner in some places, and later among others, but this everything that we as humans should aspire to be.

When the next generation comes of age, their liberal bubble is no longer a bubble but the entire world. In this “liberal” world they will see a bubble of ideas from the next with even more liberal ideas. The next generation sees themselves as growing up in a conservative world all over again. The cycle is infinite,

but until when?

See you tomorrow.
