Dry Winters and Wet Summers.

2026 Day 177. #PersonalDays.

Winters are my favourite season of the year, not that there are many to choose from. I spent much of teenage years living in the hills (for school) and now I prefer it to be a little cooler all the time. If I have to brave the summer however, I prefer it to be humid, like a coastal summer.

Dry Winters.

Nothing compares to waking up wrapped up in a duvet on a chilly winter morning. The sun is mild and you can barely feel it through the clouds. You know it’s time to wake up but something in you wants to be in bed for a little longer. Maybe you have gotten so used to seeing the raging summer sun when you wake up that this mild morning feels a little early to be waking up.

Warm, fuzzy clothes are comfortable and offer a similar sense of calmness as your duvet. A hot coffee to get your day started. I enjoy running so much more in the winters, it’s easier on your body and your heart, and you can follow it up with a warm shower.

Going out is easier as well. Put on a winter jacket or an overcoat and you are golden. Driving around on a motorcycle can be a bit of a bother, your knuckles freeze quickly, gloves become supremely important.

Being outside is just simply better too. The dry winter makes for crisp air, feels almost therapeutic to be breathing in it. The winter breeze keeps me attentive and, for a weird reason, calm. It brings me a sense of tranquility, much like when Oogway is talking to Shifu from the afterlife.

The weather makes me a little active than usual too. There is a big performance boost because your body does not heat up quickly, so if you have trained in the summer, you will see the difference when winter rolls around.

Food is also more enjoyable in the winters. Some dishes are best consumed hot and no better time than the winters. Moreover the cold helps me build an appetite, or the heat of the summer kills it, I am unsure. The fact remains that I eat more and better in the winters, and being a self proclaimed foodie just makes it all the more fun.

For me winters inspire a sense of closeness, as a consequence of feeling a little lonelier and consequently I am more social in the winters (this might be a bias playing in because in the current summer I do not feel like going out at all).

Wet Summers.

If I must spend time in the summers I prefer them to be humid. I have had the good fortune to be able to travel to various hot coastal cities and towns in India, Vietnam, Indonesia, Egypt and some colder ones in Ireland, the UK, and China.

The difference in the experience has made me love the wet summers even more. The extreme humidity is a big issue for many, but somehow I feel it makes the experience more enjoyable.

I am able to breathe better, like how one can feel the difference after it has just rained, like that but all the time. The air is a little heavy to breathe in but makes you more conscious of the process.

Light, breezy, airy clothes are all the rage. I love walking around in my linen shirts and pants, or an athletic t shirt and shorts combo like I am going out for a quick run. This is the kind of summer I like to spend time in. The heat makes everything seem to go slower and so I am more aware of each moment.

Nothing beats riding a bike in coastal cities. I suddenly develop a love for the sun on my body, the wind on my sweaty skin helps me keep cooler the faster I go, and who does not like going fast?

My appetite takes a beat. I rely on cold drinks like daiquiris to keep me going while the sun is up. The hunger comes back once the sun sets. Having a big next as you hear the waves crashing near you is satisfying. A little bit of rain also goes a long way.

The wet summers inspire a sense of freedom and adventure. I want to go out to the beach and relax. Then I want to walk through the dense forest, enjoy a swim in the pool (not the sea because I am not a strong swimmer), or a hike in a dense forest, and have some shrimp (the only seafood I actively seek) for dinner.

If I could only live in one weather I would want to be winters. Obviously I do not mean the extreme snowy winters that continental places experience but a more moderate winter.

Given the choice of two weathers this would be my favourite. While it is unlikely such a place exists, I would love to find a way to move a city/country where I could experience this forever.

Other times/weathers are liveable too, I do not actively dislike them nor do I have any particular liking for them. The weather greatly affects my mental health, physical activity, and productivity. I feel it is important to know what suits you best, so you can plan your personal space/home around it.

See you tomorrow.
