Optimising your online presence for the internet age. Personal SEO.
2026 Day 203. #PersonalDays.
Sometimes the simplest ideas do not cross our minds because we have adapted so well top our current processes. Some startups are great examples of “why did I not think of that?”. Here is another such idea, which relates to all of us individually.
Have you ever wondered about the kind of content that ranks on Google? Your blogs, your posts on social media, your tweets, your website data, your comments, and so much more ranks on google. Things that are always private (direct messages) and sometimes private (profile visibility) are the only two features saving you from internet ranking.
In between all of this it is really important for you to optimise the kind of results that come up when someone is looking you up.
Earlier google would just present links for various social media and account tha they could find of the closest name but things are evolving with AI. The first option now is the AI generated summary. This not only pulls and indexes your content in the databases, but it also summarises it for the viewer.
So what does that mean for you?
Social media is advertised as all sunshine and rainbows, but if you have ever bothered to look deeper you will realise the issues. People are often negative, not understanding, and always like an air of superiority.
Read one of the most basic books on psychology and you could apply it so many online personas that you would feel like an expert on people soon enough.
Between all of this, every little hate/supportive comment gets ranked, every Reddit discourse or Instagram caption is digested by the algorithm and spit out for anyone looking for you.
Google Search Console is the primary way to assign ownership to things and track their ranking progress on google. This is an important tool for SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) for a lot of businesses.
While the console was limited to websites, it is being expanded to include social properties like Instagram, YouTube, and X. You can now officially claim accounts and them to your “online property” if you will.
The reality is getting closer to the Black Mirror episode about social scores. It is one of the things that require a little investment of yourself and a lot of time.
The information about you does not need to come from directly you. It could be a photo a friend posted, a comment about how you have inspired someone, or how you have wronged someone else. You have been invited into this game of social scores and you do not even realise it yet.
In case you want to stay away from social media and not be ranked, then go over the little traces that you have left behind. These will define who you are to the internet, even if there is much more to do.
I would ask anyone to instead put more of theirinfomration out there. It is very unlikely that you end up with zero internet presence in this day and age. So instead of hiding from scrutiny, you should take charge and control the narrative.
Build an online presence that conveys to the world your image of you and not the one perceived from random comments or posts.
See you tomorrow.
